I have one Veeam job to backup my VM with only selected disk selected and this job already runing for several months and the full backup size is 30TB. The retention for this job set to 2 days.Last friday i remove 3 HDDs from the Veeam Job and this 3 disks exclusion have capacity 8TB.Today i check why the full backup still 30TB and not decreased even 3 disks already take out from the job? 

i need to know if there a supported veeam migration tool to migrate all vms from old server to new server

Happy Friday! We’re over halfway to 2023 (sorry to depress you!), it’s not uncommon for people to start a new year with goals or wishes for the year. How are yours shaping up? Are you on track? Have you had a busy start to the year but still have time to get on track? Share how you’re doing and any achievements below! For me, I knew I was starting a new job, so I wanted to make sure I passed my probation (I did), move house (I have), and either advance my Azure, VMware or Kubernetes knowledge and pass an exam in one of these subjects, I haven’t yet but now I’m getting into a better frame of mind I can start on this! I also had a great year with my blog last year and I wanted to prove its not a fluke by getting a similar view count this year as last year, I’m also proud to say I’ve smashed that 😁 Your turn community!

I was wondering if anyone else does this.When we delete a VM, I often have someone come ask me where it was 6 months to a year later and sometimes there is something unnoticed that is broken. Due to the amount of storage we use here (PB’s) I tend to not want to keep all these old VM’s powered off, or even on the Veeam SANs as they take up a ton of space for something that most likely isn’t needed. To resolve this I created a media pool on both tape libraries that has a retention of 2 years. When I power the VM off for the final time I do a Veeam zip, then add it to a file to tape job at both sites.In the file to tape job I just grab the VBK from the repo and then can remove the Veeam ZIP when it’s done.  Even though it’s not 3-2-1 technically the VM’s are requested to be deleted anyways. If I lost them it wouldn’t be critical. Having them on tape is cheap, and people are very happy when they can get their data.    

We observed our monthly back ups were deleted earlier than the 3 month retention set in the jobs . Short term retention is 35 restore pointsGFS is 3 months Repo is SOBR extents - Exagrid GFS Policy: Enabled, monthly backups kept for 3 months. Hello Veeam Community,I am reaching out with a concern regarding our Veeam version 12.1, as we are consistently receiving malware detection alerts on our VMs. The notifications specifically indicate:Potential malware activity detected: Too many files have had their names changed since the last backup; ensure they were not encrypted by ransomware. Potential malware activity detected: *.ttt (TeslaCrypt 3.0): 40 instances. Potential malware activity detected: *..txt: 2 instances.I have conducted thorough scans on both the VM and the backup, and no malicious activity was found. Hello to all,I configured Backup Copy Jobs to the second location via VPN.Two WAN Accelerators on source side and one on destination.VM’s with low disks are going perfectly but the problem is the big ones.Our FileServer is arround 7TB. Is it normal to take this long, its the first Backup Copy job without initial seed. 

Likely a noob question, but just want to be sure things aren’t broken.I’ve got a setup with Veeam B&R Community Edition on a single windows machine. I have full backups scheduled weekly, and daily backups every day, to a Quantum LTO-7 drive, using LTO-6 media.The console reports the total capacity of the tapes as 2.1TB. Allowing for the whole base 10 / base 2 argument, this is what I’d expect. The full backup (done last night) reports total transferred is around 1.1TB, but the tape is only reporting around 250GB free. I’m expecting around a TB free (2.1TB - 1.1TB). You can also see that the “daily” tapes are reporting 2.1TB free (again, this is expected - there’s not a lot written, maybe ~90MB per day, so not enough to make a difference to the free space reported)Is there something amiss somewhere, or am I going to have to migrate to LTO-7 media a lot sooner than I thought? 

Hi, I’m trying to back up a VM running on a standalone ESXi v8 host using Veeam B&R v12 Community edition.  When I set the job up it ran successfully but all subsequent (scheduled) backups fail with “Failed to create processing task for VM Sophos Firewall Error: No proxy available”.If I edit the job without changing anything (just applying the same settings) it will run.  Also, if I do the same with the VMWare Proxy object or the veeam server object (in Backup Infrastructure > Managed Servers) it will also run.  In all cases it will only run the first time after applying the settings. Again, all subsequent runs fail.The veeam ‘server’ is an i3 8GB Windows 10 22H2 x64 PC.  What looks to be the root cause is an entry in the job backup log that says:[ProxyDetector] VMware host API version is V800. Skipping not x64 proxies[ProxyDetector] VMware host API version is V800 and all available proxies are not x64 so we can not use it with

 I had M365 backups working flawlessly and then needed to switch repositories. Somewhere in there, something broke. So I ended up removing the repo, removing Veeam M365 backup, cleaning up all app residue and re-installing from scratch, since this was a new, small instance and I just wanted it to be clean.Now, every time I try to run a backup against the same recreated Org, the job will connect to the org, start resolving the objects, it finds the objects to backup but never actually receives any data. Shortly thereafter (30 seconds or so), the proxy service crashes and the portal shows status “disconnected” and Details “Job was interrupted”.I have even tried putting it on a different VM and the same behavior persists. The only element that I haven’t recreated is the O365 implementation. I have also recreated the Azure apps/certs each time as well.The logs don’t seem to show much. Hi, Possibly a question for @Federica or @haslund. As the VMCE & VMCA are yet to have their new exam & certification released, willl there be an extension to the expiry of the current VMCE & VMCAs?For example:I sat my VMCE 2021 in June 2021, my VMCE states it expires the 9th June 2023. Likewise I sat my VMCA in September 2021, and my VMCA states it expires the 1st September 2023. I’m conscious that this looks like it’s just an automation, but as we’re a VASP, and our ProPartner portal is showing this imminent expiry, that it could reflect badly on my organisation if my certifications have ‘expired’ even if there isn’t a replacement certification available. A second question on this, after the 2023 grade exams are available, how long will we have to upgrade before the certifications are counted as ‘expired’ within Pro

I have a Hyper-V VM in TN. Our VBR is in TX. I set the backup job for said Hyper-V VM to use on-host proxy and store data to a repo local to the Hyper-V VM in TN.  Started the job ~1940 CST and let it run, it was stuck on 50% completion, and stuck on hard disk 1 processing (like below) for almost two hours. I ended up stopping the job, not gracefully, but immediately. 7:41:16 PM    Hard disk 1 (931 GB) 1024 KB read at 1 MB/s    01:49:24 I’m using an NFR to test this because we have a Hyper-V VM in TN that we want to bring to TX but to VMware using Instant Recovery (Instant Recovery to VMware vSphere - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)) I was directed here for possible help. Hey all. I haven’t yet pulled the plug as far as deploying ReFS on any of my Repos. Main reason initially was due to lack of stability I saw quite often in its early days. Other reason is I didn’t want to go through the hassle of creating a new Repo, then spending days migrating data here/there/everywhere. My NTFS has worked and done pretty well. The only fast clone storage I have implemented currently is with my Hardened Repo. Have had no issues there, but then again..XFS is a pretty mature FS 😊 .Anyway, I just want to ping the Community yet again to hear of any ‘gotchas’ which may be out there which may lead me to being *against* implementing ReFS in my Veeam environment. I’m on the verge of getting some shiney new Nimble arrays in for my backup storage, so when I get it connected, it would be a prime opportunity for me to implement ReFS if it is indeed now stable. Hey everyone, I was working on reviving my decade old MacBook Pro yesterday, I didn’t want to put MacOS on it again because the only versions it supports are end of life, so inevitably I went down the Linux route. I prepped my USB, installed my distribution of choice (Ubuntu) and set it up as I needed (my dedicated GPU is dead so I needed a fair few tweaks to force the integrated one). As I was installing Ubuntu, it occurred to me, I gave ZERO thought to deploying anything other than Ubuntu, it’s just MY default go-to when I need a Linux OS. So, what’s your go-to? Why is it your go-to? Was it a feature, a security/compliance requirement? Was it the support? Or was it the first one you just *clicked* with?For me, I first started using Ubuntu on the 10.x release. Morning all,Happy Friday!As per @victorwu’s post, vSphere 7.0 U3c is now rereleased!I’m not here to kick them when they’re down, but VMware didn’t have the best of times with vSphere 7.0, but after their divorce from Dell EMC and the subsequent pulling of vSphere 7.0U3c for quality concerns, will this release finally be worthy of the VMware name? So, my question to you all. vSphere 6.5/6.7 are end of life later this year, so if you’re still on 6.5/6.7, will this release make you look at upgrading? Or are you still unsure and want to hold out until nearer the EOL? Share your thoughts!

Hi all,would you like a setting for a dark mode on the community side?Dark mode means dark background of the site and bright writing. I have switched to dark mode in many applications in the last time, because it's much more relaxed for my eyes when using the PC and/or phone the whole workday.What do you think? Hi Team,Got a VM running on a ESXi host. Need to add additional disk space to C: drive. However, couldn’t increase it any further using the VM properties under storage. The provisioned disk capacity is 230GB and the total disk utilization is closer to 230GB as well. The machine is thin provisioned. The connected SAN storage got free available space too. Just wondering the best option to add more disk capacity to C: drive please?Appreciate your feedback.kind regards,Andrew

Hello friends, could you help me with a problem?I have a cluster with 8 HP servers, and they run Windows Server 2012 R2 and the Hyper-V feature.I have a Veeam Backup Community and every time I register my servers as a Hyper-V Stand-Alone Cluster, after a few hours, Host Discovery gives an error and gets disconnected. It only reconnects when I repeat the process of including the Host again, but then, after a few hours, it stops again.And with this problem, all the backups I schedule give an error.Does anyone have any tips for me?Please.   

I’m not sure if this is an existing issue or new, however, when doing a Quick Migration in VBR 12.1, I see no processing rate of the job when completed.  In VBR 11, we would get a XYZ MB/s or GB/s in that “area”. Any ideas? Can this be found in logs? Some DB table (how to connect to DB if so)?
