Better than Just VPN for the Home Lab

Hi everyone!I wanted to write today about a tool that happily surprised me and now has made my life easier, related to VPN and connectivity, its called TailscaleThe main slogan says :Secure remote access to shared resourcesTailscale connects your team's devices and development environments for easy access to remote resources.I’ll try to put it on my own words, in my use case, I’ve been using it at the beginning to connect to my Home Lab remotely from my house to my “Jump Station” over RDP, then, I started to use some advanced features:VPN Access to a single client VPN to Remote Site, to access other devices not capable to install the Client Proxy / Traffic router when Im out of the house or in a untrusted network Web central console for configurations, users creation and management. backup and replication Job issue

hello, my problem is the following: I have a backup job scheduled at 5 p.m. and a continuous replication job on one of my virtual machines.  So it happens that the 2 tasks are done at the same time.  When that happens, my VM no longer works (it seems frozen, it can no longer be reached by ping, nor by remote desktop, the database it contains is no longer reachable either).  I am therefore obliged to stop one of the jobs.  help me please

Release licence for users in Veeam backup for Microsoft Office 365

I’d backed up some data for a group of users during a mail migration. The job is complete so I’ve deleted it all to free up the licenses for another job. Unfortunately I believe that I’ve done things in the wrong order. The repository has been deleted and now I can’t get “Remove-VBOLicensedUser”. For every user it outputs:“Remove-VBOLicensedUser : The process cannot access the file '\\10.1.1.1\office365backups\BackupName\Repository.xml' because it is being used by another process” The repository listed is nothing to do with these users and it’s not in user by any process that I can see - certainly openfiles is blank. Any idea how to proceed?

File Share vs Volume

If I’m creating a Windows backup, for a particular drive on a file server….is it best to create a File Share backup or a Volume level backup (essentially both backup the same set of files).  ie which is most efficient or recommended as a best practice?

Anyone have issues with Object Storage with Billions of Gets/Puts/Lists of small byte files from v12?

I am soliciting feedback from the community and Vanguards in Slack about an issue we are seeing so wanted to get feedback here also.Scenario - we have a customer using v12 with latest patches sending data to one of our DCs with Hitachi HCP Cloud Scale cluster which is very large.  They are sending over 20PB of data to us.Object Lock is turned on for some of the buckets and we are seeing billions of gets/puts/list commands which is causing havoc on the cluster worker nodes for HCPCS.The client has configured their jobs with the default block size of 1MB and we were thinking to change that to 4MB, but it would not make sense for 106-byte files.  That is the sizing of the files we are seeing the issue on for three buckets of which 2 of them are Windows servers and one is Linux.Any thoughts or has anyone run in to this before?  I am working with Veeam and Hitachi together as well but if this rings a bell for anyone your input would be great.Thanks.

Veeam on a Playstation 4? Why Not!

I’m going to preface this by saying, please please please, never try this in a production environment!!! But yes, it is technically possible to run Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Agent for Windows, Veeam Agent for Linux, and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 on a PlayStation 4 (PS4). ‘How?’ and ‘why?’ are the logical questions to ask at this point, so let’s take a quick look. The PS4 has been ‘jailbroken’ for some time, to the point that you can run Linux distributions on it, just like you used to be able to officially within the Playstation 3 era, for a while anyway before Sony removed the feature. A developer called Noob404 has released a PS4 port of Proxmox, the well known hypervisor platform, and has managed to successfully get Windows 10 to run on their PS4.As Windows 10 is a supported OS for many Veeam products, this does unintentionally enable their ability to run on a PS4! Based on AMD’s infamous FX series of CPUs & APUs, the PS4 has dual quad-core modules, allowing for

AMD EPYC ‘Rome’ Processors Can Crash after Nearly 3 Years Uptime

Hi everyone, I thought this was a good conversation point I wanted to share, as the more I thought about it, the more my thoughts on the subject changed. AMD have released an errata listing that details how their AMD EPYC Rome (7xx2) processors can, under specific conditions, crash. I’ve included the statement in its entirety below:I’m conflicted on this, my initial reaction was “wow they won’t fix this?!”, then I thought, well I guess it would involve a new stepping, and the chips were released in 2018, that’s not too unreasonable.The security conscious part of me thought, oh boy who isn’t patching their servers in nearly 3 years, but even that thought then pivoted to consider that actually with some of the live/hot patching options now available, OS-level patching is becoming less tied to a reboot. ReFS vs NTFS (or other)

Hey all. I haven’t yet pulled the plug as far as deploying ReFS on any of my Repos. Main reason initially was due to lack of stability I saw quite often in its early days. Other reason is I didn’t want to go through the hassle of creating a new Repo, then spending days migrating data here/there/everywhere. My NTFS has worked and done pretty well. The only fast clone storage I have implemented currently is with my Hardened Repo. Have had no issues there, but then again..XFS is a pretty mature FS 😊 .Anyway, I just want to ping the Community yet again to hear of any ‘gotchas’ which may be out there which may lead me to being *against* implementing ReFS in my Veeam environment. I’m on the verge of getting some shiney new Nimble arrays in for my backup storage, so when I get it connected, it would be a prime opportunity for me to implement ReFS if it is indeed now stable. I think my only concern maybe with doing restores, and rehydration of data? Do restores take a bit longer to do? Any in

Linux Server Management Options

Good day Community -With Linux being more prevalant in environments, including Veeam supporting Linux within its deployment components, it is a bit cumbersome to manage all these devices individually. So my question for the Community today is → what centralized management tool(s) do you use to manage your Linux server footprint?..to update, push scripts, monitor, etc? I’m needing to update & even push a script (change) out to our Linux servers and don’t want to touch all of them individually. Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated.I did a little bit of searching before posting and saw a tool called Landscape which looks promising, but don’t know anything about it & open to hear anyone’s experience with it...or again..any tool. Thanks in advance!

Help Request: New Custom Search Engine

A little background for those who don't know I developed and have managed a custom search engine for Veeam named resources for (almost) 5 years. With the success of this one hitting over 200k unique searches I want to and expand and test a new search engine that pulls in content from third-party content creators outside the Veeam domain. I struggled if I should put this content directly into the original search engine or to keep it separate and I have decided to keep it separate for now... with the possibility of adding it into the main search depending how it does later. Please read AllWhat I need from you: If you would like your blog or you would like to promote someone's blog who has good Veeam content please comment that URL. Can a non-domain joined VBR server use a gMSA?

Can non-domain joined VBR v12 servers use a gMSA?All of our Veeam servers are off our domain, but can communicate with AD, and I'm exploring if I can use gMSA instead of a service account.I've read the KB on gMSA for Veeam, but it's written in a way that tends me to believe its for domain joined VBRs servers. Best practice for VSPC and Veeam ONE SQL configuration database high availability

I have what I hope is a simple question. What’s the best practice for the a high availabilty SQL server for the VSPC or Veeam ONE configuration database. I see in https://www.veeam.com/kb2301 how to deploy SQL AOAG for VBR and VEM. I’m not sure if this applies to VSPC or Veeam ONE.
