Hey all, A file backup job started failing when it attempted to run on Saturday the 15th. When the job ran on Friday evening, everything was fine, but it decided to start failing on Saturday. On Friday night, the recent Microsoft patch (kb5009557 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809)) was installed after the Veeam job ran so I am thinking that the failure might be due to the update? Currently using Veeam Backup and Replication Build 11.0.0.837 installed on a Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V machine. When looking in Event Viewer, I looked under the Applications and Services Logs tree and the failed job is given an Event ID of 190 with this message, “Job details: Error: Agent: Failed to process method {NasMaster.CreateIfNotExistsJobBackup}: You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network.” I have looked at the network and

Hi Id like to find out what people think the best course of action would be in my circumstances. we have an agent backup job that was running on a WSFC failover cluster file server. this was backup up to a SOBR which was tiered to AWS We have just removed the WSFC cluster in favour of single servers, I have had to create new backup jobs within Veeam (cant use clustered type for non clustered) which was fairly easy my question is what do to with the old jobs, they have backup data attached to them in performance capacity tiers which I don’t want to accidentally remove but I am unsure whether it is best to just disable the job, or remove the protected volumes from the jobs, but I think that if I disable or remove the selections that Veeam wont be able to manage the retention policies thanks!

Hey everyone, Tim announced earlier today that his famous RPS (Restore Point Simulator) tool is now deprecated. If this name doesn’t mean anything to you, the URL likely will: https://rps.dewin.me. For years this tool has been a must have for anyone working with data protection. Now Veeam have an official tool (Fun Fact, some RPS code was used/referenced in the official tool so it lives on!). The official tool is available at https://calculator.veeam.com/vbr, it has been available for a little while now but today is the day Tim officially announced the deprecation of the project. As such please remember to use the official tool as part of your sizing efforts moving forwards. And finally, thanks Tim for all the times your tool has helped us out!

Just a quick post; the latest Windows Server updates for 2012R2, 2019 and 2022 (haven’t seen 2016) can cause ReFS issues. After the installation, ReFS volumes are shown as RAW and are no longer accessible; so if you’re using ReFS for your repositories, then take be aware of this when installating the update. Besides that, those updates can also cause bootloops for domain controllers and break Hyper-V.Depending on your Windows Server version one of the following updates could have caused the issue: KB5009624, KB5009557, KB5009555 If you’re affected then removing the mentioned update should solve the issue. Don’t (!) try to repair the ReFS volume, because this could cause a dataloss.This should remind everyone why 3-2-1 for Backups is so important. I have a question as we are looking to make sure that our backup environment is as recoverable as possible in the event of the most extreme events.We have our VBR server virtualized in HyperV.  We do a backup job for the configuration database.  We also have a replication task setup to replicate the VBR server to our DR location.What we are looking at is that the location that the config database is backed up to is in the primary data center.  What has anyone done to create a task to copy the config database offsite, like to SharePoint or OneDrive or something like that.

I created a SOBR in order to tier off data to AWS.  That process works perfectly.My capacity tier setting is setup to Copy and Move.  The Move is setup for 14 days (operational restore window)My backup job has a retention of 30 days with the Backup Repo being the SOBRAnd I am doing Forward Incremental with weekly Active Full on Sunday My issue is that in the Performance Tier, I only have 1 backup chain (currently there are 3 restore points Sun-Tues), not 2 as I would have anticipated with my Move policy.  My Object Storage is showing the correct number of restore points / backup chains based upon the 30 day Retention I have setup on my job.What do you think I am doing work with this configuration?  I am looking to have 1 complete backup chain plus current week, so 7 + 7 in my performance tier.What am I doing wrong that I am not getting my 14 days on Performance tier? Thank you everyone for your support

Hello,I tried to install a new VBR server with the iso of Version 11a P20211211 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.iso).This fails at once with a strange error…Tells you everything you have to know…  After that I tried the install on the same machine with an iso Version 11a P20211005 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211005.iso) and the Patch to V11a (P20211211 VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.zip) and all is working fine. Did anyone get this error, too? I did not find anything in the forums to this behavior…Unfortunately I did not have much time and had to get this installed, so I did not get all logs for Veeam support. I will try to recreate this situation….

I have several SQL jobs that currently perform nightly (or weekly) restores of a production database on other servers.  Since we have now migrated to the Veeam Backup and Replication solution, I am trying to accomplish these same tasks within the Veeam environment.  (BTW, we are on Veeam version 11.)  I set up the Veeam PowerShell environment as described here https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/powershell/getting_started.html?ver=110#remote and wrote a script to perform a database restore (see attached).I ran the script interactively within a PowerShell session and it completed successfully.  I ran it again as a Windows Scheduled Task and it worked.  However, I can’t get it to run as a SQL Server Agent job. Here’s the error message that I’m receiving:The term 'Start-VESQLRestoreSession' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.Sinc

Hi, We are utilizing the RestAPI in VBR11 to manage most of our jobs (reporting, start, stop, etc).It seems that SureBackup jobs are not included in the API, when communication with /api/v1/jobs Is there an roadmap for the API, where we can follow the progress? Or is this already included? :)

Hi, I have downloaded a trial of Veeam Office 365 backup after hearing how good it was in several places as we currently use another product but it's not the best in terms of features. Initial setup was simple enough but when it came to running the backup job, the performance was dreadfully slow. Averaging between 500-800kbps, it will take months to backup at this rate! Bandwidth is not an issue, we have a leased line and easily get 200meg down. Surely something must be wrong? I have read about auxiliary accounts but that option is greyed out for me...? I have the latest version, downloaded only last week. A bit disappointing since the rest of it seems to be pretty sweet.Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hi Folks, While not a technical subject, nevertheless since we are working with Veeam and that implies Disaster Recovery I am pretty certain many of you have been in the high pressure trenches of Severity One situations.Unless you have nerves of steel inevitably this will start to take a toll on your health and well being. People here are veterans of this profession so you have obviously found ways to survive and handle this. I thought it would be good to share what we all do to keep our sanity.
