Hey Community, I received a few messages from community members asking how to get notifications when there is a new content published (in this case we talked about “Blogs and Podcasts” category). I thought I would do a quick post about it. First, there is a possibility to subscribe to every category at Community Hub Let’s say, you would like to subscribe to “Blogs and Podcasts” category. To do so, you have to push ‘SUBSCRIBE’ button at the right side as shown at the screenshot below: Once it’s done - you will start receiving notifications about new topics created!Again, you can get subscribed to any category: whether it’s Discussion boards or News. You can also manage notification settings at your profile. If you experience any issues with notifications - please let me know!
We are back!Episode 1 sparked some strong input, but also a bit too much alignment 😄So this time, we decided to make it harder.I asked @ddomask to help me shape a statement that would force a real split — not an obvious answer.Debate Statement “Tape is dead — stop living in the past and use a real archival solution like Object Storage or dedicated deduplication appliances.”Tape had it's heyday, but so did IRC. True data resilience requires a modern solution, and you can only get that with a vendor-supported archiving service / appliances, and you can get both on the cheap without having to spend a fortune on hardware and maintenance. Your data will always be safe with one of these more modern options. What I’m looking for this roundNo theory. No safe answers.I want:Where tape still wins in practice Where modern solutions fall short in real environments The trade-offs you’ve had to make at scaleDon’t aim to agree — aim to challenge the statement with real-world experience.New here? We know AI is becoming a normal part of how people create content, and lately we’ve been seeing more of it show up in the Community Hub.That said, posts that are mostly AI-generated don’t really add the kind of value this community is built on—especially when that same information can be created by anyone using the same tools. What we’re really looking for is your experience: real-world scenarios, hands-on demos, lessons learned, and practical insights from what you’re actually doing day to day. That’s what makes the community useful and interesting for everyone. Also, content that is primarily AI-generated won’t be considered as part of the criteria for becoming a Legend or Vanguard. So if you’re sharing, try to lead with your own voice and perspective—that’s the part that really matters.
Good day Community,Back from vacation straight into the big guns — so here it goes 🙂Has anyone started looking at Veeam Intelligent ResOps for Microsoft 365 yet?It feels like an interesting shift — less about backup in the traditional sense and more about adding context and intelligence around M365 resilience decisions.Curious how it’s being seen so far:Does it feel like a real step toward “resilience intelligence,” or more like an extension of existing reporting? Is it actually changing how teams prioritize or make decisions, or is it still mostly visibility on top of what we already had? And does it feel meaningfully different compared to what others are doing in the space?Would be great to hear some early thoughts from people already exploring it.Best, Madi
The polls are open!As always, the community has shared some really great blog posts this month — useful insights, practical tips, and real-world experiences. Hi everyone, I have problem with one of my servers who have MSQL and when the backup is finished i have this warning message “ Unable to truncate Microsoft SQL Server transaction logs. Details: Failed to process 'TruncateSQLLog' command. Failed to truncate SQL server transaction logs for instances: . See guest helper log.” I have search in official support and only find that the veeam account for backup must be MSQL administrator on that database, and to be local admin on that machine. I have make him database admin, but still i have this warning, and the hdd on that machine will be full soon. We have V11 Enterprise with support and so on, but because we are Public Enterprise we have bought this product from one Company in our Town. Can somebody give me some solution instruction step by step ?

Hi there,Veeam B&R 12 is installed on a Windows 2022 Server, which is installed on VMWare ESXi 6.5 U3. From there I backup our produtvie Server, which is a VMWare ESXi 6.7 with a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2012 R2 (Exchange Server) installed on it. Everything works fine, exept the backup of the Windows 2012 R2 Server. It does backup, but I receive the Warning “Failed to index guest file system. VSS Control: Index failed". Is there any way to fix this, except disabling the file indexing?
Consistently getting “VSS: Backup job failed. Cannot notify writers about the ‘BACKUP FINISH’ event. A VSS critical writer has failed. Writer name: [Microsoft Exchange Writer]. Class ID: [{long cryptic txt}] Instance ID: [{long cryptic txt}] Writer’s State: [ VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_BACKUP_COMPLETE ] Error code: [0x800423f3]This is happening on our Exchange 2016 Mailbox servers. Following the error above, when Processing finishes it is listed as a “Warning”“Did the job “Fail” or is this just a Warning? How do I fix this Error/Warning?Will sincerely appreciate any advise I can get!
Hi all. Running Windows Server 2019 as a standalone Hyper-V server. The server is in a workgroup.I have installed the community edition of VBR 12, and configured my backup repository. When trying to configure a new Hyper-V backup job, Veeam gives me a message to say that it cannot connect to the ADMIN$ share. However, if I type \\localhost\ADMIN$ into the run box, then the folder does open.I’ve tried setting my host name to localhost, to the server name and to it’s IP address. I’ve also tried with the current logged in credentials, and have tried by enabling the administrator account.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, and have a great weekend!
Hello All,I have a VM on standalone Hyper-v 2019 with a backup checkpoint that I can not delete. The checkpoint was created by veeam during backup. There is no opting in the GUI to manually delete the checkpoint.I ran the backup again and it was succesfull however it did not delete the checkpoint. What can I do? the checkpoint is growing quite rapidlly.Version: Veeam Backup 10a Build: 10.0.1.4854 P20201202
I have setup a new server on our network. Connected to domain, network, hyper-v installed and I am unable to add this server to the Virtual Infrastructure > Microsoft Hyper-V > Standalone Hosts > (server). I have my Veeam server trying to contact our new server and there seems to be a road block. I am running Veeam V11a trying to setup a new 2019 windows server. During the hyper-v setup process I have added the name and/or IP address, I have selected the last option (standalone) which matches the description of the new server. My credentials do work because I ran a test to setup a VM running server 2019 and I was able to set that up right away. For some reason the physical server is blocking the Veeam connection. Is there a firewall exception I need to add? I did attempt to manually add the physical server to Veeam so the agent might create its own firewall exceptions. I was unsuccessful at that as well.
Hello,I have a Hyper-V host with 2012 R2 on it and already added to Veeam as a host and it was working fine. One day I found a VM backup job fail.I tried to rescan the host and found the error Access Denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))I tried to edit the host and check the credentials and found I removed the job and removed the host and tried to add it again but the same error in image above appears.I don’t know where the issue comes from. The credentials are the same didn’t change Regards,Muhammad

Hey Veeam Community,Here’s a community thread for discussions around your VeeamON 2021 experience! What is your most-anticipated session? What is your favorite announcement from VeeamON 2021? What stole the show for you?
The restore point was created at 10/4, but the VIB file was remove from the disk already, on the resotre point portal, it still show normal status for this resotre point, so i cannot remove it. Also try to rescan bakcup repo, it say below:added 0 unencrypted, added 0 encrypted, updated 0, removed 0, skipped 1, failed 0
If a backup copyjob shows one vm in the job in a warning status that says “Waiting for backup resources availability”; did that particular VM actually copy over or did it ultimately fail to copy over?
After doing a cold boot of the host server, the Veeam backup service has failed to run or come back online. When trying to connect through the client we receive the error message of “No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:9392”After checking the logs, we’ve found an error stating that it failed to fetch logical page (1:21805) in database 5 failed. It belongs to allocation unit 72057594191544320 not to 72057594190823424
I have got the following error for 4 different VMs server’s backup jobs . this is happening for thre consecutive day now6/15/2023 11:34:55 PM :: Task failed. Failed to expand object RDS09. Error: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA) any solution , suggestion? I really appreciate your help and Thanks in advance.
I wanted to create this in the hopes that in the future, someone who is experiencing this error will find this thread and see a solution. I randomly had a backup start throwing the below error:Failed to pre-process the job Error: One or more errors occurred. Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files Error: Full storage not foundThrough some Google searching, all I could really find was to run an Active Full and start a new backup chain. I tried this, but the error still persisted. At this point, I did the only other thing I knew to do, so I told Veeam to delete the restore points for that job from disk, and I then ran a new active full. I essentially started over with a fresh dataset. I was able to get a successful backup after this.In conclusion: if you ever run into this issue, try running a new active full. If this does not resolve your issue, go to your restore points (the Disk section in VBR), and tell Veeam to delete from disk all of those restore points fo
Hi, I have not been inside Veeam for a while. I am getting errors as in the snapshot below:I understand it is complaining about storage space for backups but I am trying to zero in on what to attack first here. The one that interests me is “Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files error…...is locked by running session xxx-xxx [Instant recovery]. Is Veeam just too busy to start the backup because it could not apply retention policy? Not sure which item to investigate first...ar
Hello, Recently, the Veeam B&R server was updated to the 11.1.0. (). When I first opened Veeam Console, The “Components Update” wizard was initiated and the update processes were started. The update of the veeam server failed with the status “Failed to upgrade host components. Error: 'Error 1714. The older version of Veeam Agent for Linux Redistributable cannot be removed.” What can I try?
Just a quick post; the latest Windows Server updates for 2012R2, 2019 and 2022 (haven’t seen 2016) can cause ReFS issues. After the installation, ReFS volumes are shown as RAW and are no longer accessible; so if you’re using ReFS for your repositories, then take be aware of this when installating the update. Besides that, those updates can also cause bootloops for domain controllers and break Hyper-V.Depending on your Windows Server version one of the following updates could have caused the issue: KB5009624, KB5009557, KB5009555 If you’re affected then removing the mentioned update should solve the issue. Don’t (!) try to repair the ReFS volume, because this could cause a dataloss. This should remind everyone why 3-2-1 for Backups is so important.
