In a Cyber Security corner, we can’t not celebrate Password day!

Ok, maybe in 2022 we should use term “passphrase” and not the simple and old “password”, but hey I didn’t choose the name of today. It was Intel, back in 2013.

Here in Italy, a study says that 10 most used password are:

  • 123456
  • 123456789
  • 12345
  • 12345678
  • qwerty
  • juventus
  • 000000
  • password
  • andrea
  • napoli

In the world, instead, this is the TOP 10:

  • 123456
  • 123456789
  • qwerty
  • password
  • 12345
  • qwerty123
  • 1q2w3e
  • 12345678
  • 111111
  • 1234567890

And. What. Intel maybe you had an honorable purpose when institute this day, but 9 years passed and not so much has changed in terms of security.

There’s a super interesting article about password used in the world: https://cybernews.com/best-password-managers/most-common-passwords/

They studies the use of months in passwords, seasons, days, cities, foods and more… really, give a read, it’s worth! I just share 2 images, more on that source.

Cities

Foods

And what’s more about using wrong password? Well, most common mistakes are:

  • using same password as username
  • name of daughter or son;
  • name of the partner
  • name of the pet.
  • a sequence of birthdate
  • favorite sports team or celebrity
  • adding 123 to the end.

Lastly, there’s a ton of services to manage complex passwords (I write none to avoid promoting), why not use them?

And when in use, enable cloud sync and backup or stored only in local?

Let’s talk about this!
