SureBackup - Help with configuring and testing

Hello everybody and wish you a happy and successful new year.  I’m starting with configuration of SureBackup for our environment.I’m still pretty new to everything so it would be great if someone can assist.We have a standalone Hyper-V Host that we are using for our Virtual Lab.Few of you are already familiar with our setup but I will write it again:Backup Jobs going on primary location (Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Backup Copy Jobs on secondary location ( Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Immutable Backups on secondary location ( Running Directly on Synology NAS as a VHR - isolated ) Now I want to add SureBackup to our Backup Strategy to complete the 3-2-1-1-0 rule. Currently I created an Virtual Lab with Hyper-V Host but didn’t configure anything than default settings that Veeam Already configured by itself.VM’s that we backup range from DC’s, FileServer’s, Revit Server’s and a lot of other applications.What would

VCloud Director - Do You Use It?

I’m curious are many of us using vCD in production?We have it but are still quite new into this journey and slowly starting to pick away at the features available. We have self-service enabled for backups and are looking to explore cloud connect DRaaS into vCD in the near future.Do you have plans to deploy vCD to add value to your VMware deployments?Has the acquisition by Broadcom affected any future plans to deploy it?

Extract data from backup in S3 Object storage created by Windows endpoint backup

Hi all,A user formatted his laptop as revenge to his company, but a valid endpoint backup was taken using Endpoint agent backup for workstation to a dedicated S3 object storage bucket.So we’re out of meta-data but should have 7 valid backup points in Object Storage. Now I want to get FLR from this backup with minimum effort, so I was thinking of adding the Repo in an Existing VBR 12.1 and import the backups from there.Attaching the bucket: no problemSyncing the repo: no problemImporting backups from the bucket: problem :-( I get the message: Failed to synchronize Object Storage <Object Name> Folder does not exist.Anybody tried this before ? Another path could be to install the Endpoint agent on a donor machine and try to connect from to the repo and perform restores…

backup job failed since windows-host reinstall

HI,    A backup job failed since the windows-host been reinstalled. Here is the error message: Cannot connect to 192.168.1.11 Details: The network path was not found. The network path was not found. (ERROR_BAD_NETPATH).The default share of ADMIN$ has been set, and the port 445 is open.Shoud I clear all of the setting and data-file of the host ?What is worng?  Thanks a lot!

Plugin all of a sudden consuming license - though VM is part of socket license

In a customer environment today we faced the issue that all HANA plugin backups all of a sudden stopped backing up:Session failed: Unable to process the workload: your license has been exceeded   In VBR’s license dialog I found the plugins to consume VUL licenses all of a sudden - which there are only the 6 complimentary ones. The plugins run on VMs already under socket licensing and that worked for years.Has anyone seen this already? How does VBR actually determine if the plugin resides on a VM? This process seems to be impaired here.Case is open. Support is digging through plugin logs. ThanksMichael

How to identify physical hard disk drives sitting in multiple SAN devices connected to a single ESXi host?

Hi Team,Got two question and appreciate your response.Q1.In my work environment, we got 3 ESXi hosts and each have connected to multiple SAN devices to store data in different locations. I need to do a mapping exercise to identify the physical HDD’s (inside each SAN device) locations to above said individual ESXi host. I can access the ESXi host from a web interface and can view the datastores connected to individual ESXi host. Further, I can retrieve basic information of  the HDDs (physical) but not an option to locate in which SAN device they are stored.Hope my question is clear and appreciate your valuable support to obtain the best eway to perform this exercise?Q2.Also would like to know a tool or a mechanism to detect the health status of the physical HDD. The HDDs are in the production environment would like to know an industry best practice to determine the health status please?Than you in advance. Kind regards, Andrew

I’ve created a repository per the instructions from the documentation, but cannot select it for scheduled Configuration Backups. It’s displayed in the Repository list. Encryption, and immutability is enabled.Is there something else missing?

Automate Veeam Agent Upgrades via VSPC

One of the things I have been looking at recently is automating the process of upgrading Veeam Agents. The great thing with Veeam Service Provider Console is how easy we can bulk update agents from one place. However, I wanted to take it a step further and have this totally automated - mainly because I am lazy. To do so, I have used the VSPC API to do this for me. I am not the most proficient with PowerShell, someone can probably make this run more efficiently. However the below script works just fine for me, so thought I would share it with the community. I use this via an Azure Function that runs every morning and kicks off an upgrade of any agents that require it, however you could schedule this from a RMM product etc, whatever works best for yourself. At the moment there is no property in the VSPC API to show if an agent requires an upgrade, so it starts by adding this property by comparing the installed version to the current released version (this part you manually have to update

I removed the veeam B&R server and Enterprise manager from the domain due to security issues, and now I want to know if it is possible to log in to these servers, which are workgroups, with domain users ?Is there a best practice?

Quick performance tip for single repository (Windows) users with a single or spanned volume.

I’m planning on making a better writeup with my settings and some photos, but for now this is on my mind after helping someone today.  I often see Veeam setups with 1 large datastore / volume in Windows for their repository. Other times quite often it will be multiple disks spanned into a single logical Volume, lets call it D:\. You can still get good performance like this, and the simplicity is quite nice, but can it be better? If you have some spare storage kicking around I encourage you to try this in your lab. Run your benchmarks on this single volume (D:\) record your results and then then delete the logical and physical volume. Create 3 new equal sized volumes with matching logical volumes. Lets call them E:\ F:\ and G:\. Next run IOMeter or your favorite benchmarking tool.  Make sure you are pushing the queues to see the benefits of multiple physical/logical volumes.  The next thing you can do is check and modify queue depth on the adapters and Windows server. Veeam plugins - check VBR version compatibility BEFORE upgrading - it's not as it seems

Just a heads up for those of you using Veeam plugins. Especially, if they are unmanaged by VBR, which we see quite often for the large line of business applications.Today we have plugins for SAP-HANA, SAP on Oracle (Linux only), Oracle RMAN (Windows and Linux), IBM Db2 and MS-SQL.Having done quite a few upgrades for larger customers recently, I had to learn some non-obvious peculiarities about plugin compatibility:First, you might think (as I did), that VBR always supports the plugin of the major release below the one you’re upgrading to. In fact, it says so in the help center: “Veeam Backup & Replication supports the latest two major versions of Veeam Plug-ins.” (System Requirements - Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications).The challange is in the term “major version”. To me, that would have meant the number before the decimal point. For example, 12 for 12.x, 11 for 11.x. As it turns out, this is not the case. 12.1 install and Malware Detection

Well, I just did the upgrade to 12.1 and things could not have gone more smooth. I did have to uninstall the console on my desktop manually and reinstall it but the server side went great.It seems like it’s running quick, and the new features are fantastic. The malware detection is going to take a bit of tuning, due to the amount of files, and odd file types some of these video players use, but I am very excited that these are now included in B and R.

Does Veeam feature Imaging or Cloning of drives / partitions, or is it just backup?

When researching backup strategies, I think I understand that Veeam creates “snapshots” which are backups, which need to be restored, which can take time… I.e. if my OS drive fails, I need to boot into a Preboot Environment (PE) or Recovery Environment (RE), then start the restore process, which might take hours. But in theory, with a separate hard drive with a cloned version of the OS, I could swap the drive, and boot up into a working OS installation in approximately 5 minutes. But I can’t find any explanation if Veeam offers the ability to create an image or clone of a full drive and or partition, and I am asking if there is a reason for this omission?I have read on other websites that the built-in Windows 7 create system image “feature” is not to be trusted, it is old and no longer supported.Therefore it seems like an Imaging / Cloning feature would be important to make Veeam a complete protection solution.Otherwise I need to buy some other software to get an automated imaging / cl
