Hi all,I have a VM running on Hyper-V 2016, its a Ubuntu 20.04.6 with MariaDB installed. So I defined a (cold) pre-freeze.sh and and post-thaw.sh and tested both in /tmp directory, it will work as expected when done with sudo, under the specified user. However when the backup job does that, it throws an error. This is what you can see in the Console windows under the details of that VM: 08.04.2023 16:47:10 :: VM is now in the required state for processing  08.04.2023 16:47:11 :: Preparing to create snapshot  08.04.2023 16:47:13 :: Pre-freeze script finished execution with exit code -1  08.04.2023 16:47:14 :: Creating VM recovery checkpoint (mode: Crash consistent)  08.04.2023 16:47:25 :: Post-thaw script finished execution with exit code -1 Other than that the VM is properly backed up.This is the content oif the Task.db01.something.log on the VBR server: [08.04.2023 16:47:13.652] <14> Info         [ScriptInvoker] No scripts are set to invoke, creating empty invoker[08.04.2023 16:4

Hi Folks, I wasted a lot of time in my life doing dumb things. Luckily a remain young in spirit and continue to do dumb things even now. Like troubleshooting an ignition process on Flatcar when the issue was staring me in the face. When dealing with failures and errors be it in backup or anything else try the “metaphor” method in order to help you solve the problem. For me it was that services were not starting when booting the immutable OS. Permission denied came up in the journalctl output but it made no sense since that part of the filesystem was chmod with the right access. Then I checked the location and the files were there with the correct names but… there size was zero. I checked the ignition file creation and all looked fine. I struggled until it hit me when on my walk and passing by a location that I used to frequent quite often.. the beer store. If you are in line up to buy beer and you have brought your empty bottles to cash in on the recycling refund.. you can’t just take

Hi all, i have a 2019 windows server virtual on Hyper-v enviroment. i have three snapshot create from Veeam community ed. that a cannot delete.hov can i do ?? thank youRiccardo

Yes, as the title says, I failed the VMCE exam this morning.69% out of 70% to pass.I want to share my mistakes so whoever reads this post will be able to do better:If you're a Windows sysadmin like me, don't leave anything related to the Linux world behind. Almost 1/3 of my questions were about Linux. So, it's really really important to have a complete knowledge at 360°.Memorize various options in menus, where it says and what it says.Don't just focus on Veeam Backup and Replication, look at all our other products as well.Very important are @haslund videos: not to get the answer, but how to get the anwser. He does a great job to explains how to reason to solve questions.YT links: https://www.youtube.com/@RasmusHaslund/playlists Community links: https://community.veeam.com/search/activity/topics?userid=80Again, @haslund he's the man.You can even find three exam preps he prepared to help you “simulate” real exam (with obviously different questions).https://rasmushaslund.com/vmce-practice

In an agent job for a WSFC (fileserver role) we see a warning after having switched over to the secondary node. Each job run now finishes with a warning that CBT table has changed. As with VM backups I expected the warning to disappear in the next cycle - but it didn’t. How can I reset the CBT for an agent backup (not hypervisor based CBT but Veeam CBT driver here)?

Hi, since an unattend shutdown of our server, our B&R can't established connection to our (only) linux vm.Of course this stuff worked before. When i tried to connect through ssh for the first time after the shutdown, it says that fingerprint key of the host changed. I bassicaly remove the old fingerprint in my local known-hosts file.- I checked sshd logs in the timeframe i tried to login through B&R console and this shows :sshd[10137]: Unable to negotiate with 192.168.0.216 port 52062: no matching key exchange method found. Their offer: diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 [preauth]sshd[10139]: Unable to negotiate with 192.168.0.216 port 52063: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-rsa,ssh-dss [preauth]- I tried to allow diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 and ssh-rsa in ssh_config file of my server. But it doesn't change anything. ❌- I tried with different user, it doesn't change anything. ❌- I reinstall ssh-server, it doesn't change anything. ❌- On B&R console i removed and add h

Dear Community,I’m running Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition 9.5 and replicating offsite to a Cloud vendor. I upgraded it to Version 12 to get bug & security fixed. Upon reaching version 12 I came to know that the Cloud vendor does not support version 12, they only support 11a.Now the I have tried to downgrade it to 11a but the Database is locked to Version 12 and is not usable.I’m looking to rebuild on Version 11a and archiving backups. is this possible? Below are some queries and answers you might want to read. What is the exact upgrade and downgrade versions?                Upgrade (Current) Version: Veeam Backup & Replication 12 (12.0.0.1420 P20230223)                Downgrade Version: Veeam Backup & Replication 11a (11.0.1.1261 P20230227)•  What Veaam components are being used?                Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition package•  OS details on which Veaam is installed.                Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard•  SQL/ D

I have been a Veeam Vanguard for six years and Veeam Legend for just over a year and was fortunate enough to have attended the VeeamON 2017 event in New Orleans and VeeamON 2022 in Las Vegas, and it was fantastic.  Great sessions, lots of networking and meeting more of the Veeam folks and Vanguards/Legends.Being a Vanguard is a real honour, and many people ask me when they see my Veeam Vanguard jacket or shirt - What is Veeam?  My answer is a typical one - it is backup software for your infrastructure for now and the future which then leads to a conversation around technology, backups, and many other things. This year's event in Miami looks to build on previous events like New Orleans, Chicago, and Las Vegas.Attending VeeamON is one of the best events if you want to learn more about backup and what Veeam is all about. From user sessions, networking and training this event is packed with something for everyone.  I was lucky to be able to attend VeeamON 2022 in Las Vegas last year and th

If someone has been doing image based backups of 100+ workstations in Acronis, but is interested in moving to a VBR environment, how do we accommodate that scale of workstation backups? The only thing I know to do is throw the Windows agent on them and create an agent backup within VBR, but I am curious if there is a better solution.

Oracle Block Change Tracking (BCT) is a feature in Oracle databases that helps improve the performance of incremental backups by tracking the changes made to database blocks. When Block Change Tracking (BCT) is enabled, the database keeps track of all the blocks that have been modified since the last backup. This information is stored in a bitmap file, which is used by backup software to determine which blocks to backup. By only backing up the changed blocks, incremental backups can be performed more quickly and efficiently.BCT is particularly useful in environments with large databases or where backups need to be performed frequently. It can also be used in conjunction with other backup technologies, such as snapshot-based backups or replication.BCT can be enabled at the database or tablespace level and is compatible with both physical and logical backups. To enable BCT, the database must be running in ARCHIVELOG mode and the appropriate initialization parameters must be set. Oracle BC

Are there any updates on Veeam releasing a DR orchestration solution for hyper-v? Surprising that it’s been requested multiple times, but haven't released anything yet for one of the most used hypervisor technologies.

I recently updated a client from Veeam 11, I think .816 to the latest version available. Everything went as usual as I do these quite often but this one is throwing a pop up that states, "unable to upgrade plug-ins under the current user, please open the console under an account with administrative privilege's:" when I launch Veeam. I am logged in as a local administrator account and have updated this client in the past with no issues.I just click on okay and it opens up like normal. I also checked for any updates to the managed machine and there is upgrade option. This is a stand alone Veeam system with no remote components.I don't think it's going to impact the functionality but will know more after tonight's job run.Appreciate any feedback! Thanks,Poettone!

Hi, we have a strange issue where if we boot to VEEAM recovery media created in server 2016 or Server 2019 we can see the recovery EXT HDD but it shows as needing to be formatted and unreadable, we are currently using Western Digital My Passports formatted with REFS. Thanks in advance

Hi everyoneWe did install in our test environment Veeam VBR V12I want to test the gMSA.Installed as subscribed inhttps://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/using_gmsa.html?ver=120Is it possible to run the Veeam Service with gMSA and so yes on which services I should run it on.Currently the Veeam services on this test VBR are running with the local system account.I have on a production VBR the services running with a service account worked fine but after the last crittical update I had to change the Veeam NFS service to local system as It did make my SureBackup during the mounting phase.Looking forward to your comments!

Good Monday everyone! Another week, another script 😉 This time for the Veeam file share backup jobs.IntroAlso last Friday another script was ready for release, but I didn't want to "interrupt" the World Backup Day celebrations with a dull script ;) And my last script also caused quite some buzz in our backup world:vbr-job-scanner-ps1And I promised that more will come...    The scriptIn my GitHub repository you can find a script that checks if a unexpectedly high number of files have been backed up via file share backup compared to the last times. There are two versions of this script:vbr-nasjob-scanner.ps1 - For manual checks vbr-nasjob-scanner-post-script.ps1 - For use in the Backup Job as a post-script Details and instructions on the readme page.Feedback welcome!

We had some problems with restoring VMs in the last time. After some research we found that the Proxy on Linux has a problem with the assignments of physical volumes. It seems that there are PVs of target machines are preserved in the LVM archive files of the proxy… This is causing problems at restore time – leaving the restored VMs unbootable.I have double checked the Veeam documentation about prerequisites (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/backup_proxy_requirements.html?ver=110) and found no hint that LVM is a problem with Linux proxy. The problem occurred with Suse Linux only, we are in the process to check if there is the same problem with RedHat Linux. To visualize the problem, I will show it from the Veeam Proxy perspective and from the target VMs perspective. Veeam ProxyList the physical volumes with pvs. One device is not found…Grep for the UUID of the missing volume in the directory /etc/lvm/archiveIn this case the UUID is found in three files. At these three occ

Hi, we have customer with VMware infra in Production and using Nutanix AHV in DR. They want to replicate from VMware to Nutanix and failback if needed? Is that possible or what will be the work around using veeam?

Hello,I have upgraded "Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition" from v11 to v12 and "Veeam Agent for Linux" from v5 to version v6.0.0.1060.Since then, I receive no more Backup Status mails from any Agent running v6.The only status mails I receive, ist for a Windows client with Agent version v5.0.3.4708.I have already checked the notification settings on the "VBR" several times. Various test mails are delivered successfully.Does anyone have similar problems after the upgrade, or a solution?I would be very grateful for any feedback

Hi, i need and advice on how to configure Veeam v12 where i would like to setup immutable repository where i would put the last 7 backups and in the same time have that same backup copied on DellEMC DataDomain were i have GFS with for example 7 daily / 4 weekly / 3 monthly. I know that with SOBR i can make performance (immutable) and DD (capacity tier), but will it delete/move the data from immutable repo.

I know this is not Veeam related but I am also part of the vExpert program with VMware and had the chance to get some Intel Optane drives through the program, so I wrote a blog on how I got them set up and some initial testing done.  You can find it here- https://justvirtualization.blog/2023/03/31/intel-optane-vexpert-awesome/  Intel Optane + vExpert = Awesome!  Thank you to @Intel and @vExpert for the opportunity to test some unique technology in the Intel Optane drives.I have been part of the VMware vExpert program for four years now, and in 2023, there was a webinar done by Intel on their Optane drives. After the webinar, there was the chance to be chosen to receive a gift from Intel of some Optane drives for HomeLab testing. I decided to submit for the chance to receive the Optane drives and was lucky enough to be selected. At the time of selection, you had to choose your drive choice, which was PCIe or U2 format. My HomeLab consists of four Intel Skull Canyon NUCs, so using PCIe w

I ran several V12 updates through our Service Provider Console and just wanted to make sure that anyone else running these upgrades watches for this issue as well.  The issue being, when you push the update and it updates successfully, check the results to make sure that it reenabled all backup and copy jobs at the end.  I had a handfull of upgrades where it stated the upgrade was successful, but in checking the logs, the update didn’t reenable a couple of jobs at the end.  It seemed to me mostly copy jobs, but I had at least one or two backup jobs as well.  Veeam Service Provider Console log results for upgrading a VBR server to v12 that indicated success in the upgrade but failed to reenable jobs afterwords. One other thing to look out for is that when you update, make sure that the client isn’t copying data to a VCC provider that isn’t yet on v12 (looking at you 11:11 Systems/Iland).  In that case, copy jobs will now be broken and won’t run until the provider has updated their e
